Objective

Create a poster that video game distributors can hang in their game centers that would quickly generate interest in the new pinball/video game hybrid called Pinball 2000.

Target

Bar and video arcade owners.

Insight

People wanted to see more of the new Star Wars villain. The one that came before Darth Vader.

Strategy

Use this interesting character in a way that screamed “pinball” and “the new Star Wars movie” in a glance.

Execution

Show Darth Maul’s face leaning into the pinball to check it out, meanwhile making eye contact with the viewer.

Results

George Lucas personally approved of this concept and it won best poster at the  Business Marketing Awards. The image was also used on tee shirts, a micro-site and web banners.
